Jami’ At-Tirmidhi – Edition Darussalam – Volume 6 – Hadith 3724 page 395 396

3724. ‘Àmir bin Sa‘d bin Abï Waqqâs narrated from his father, saying: “Mu‘âwiyah bin Abü Sufyân ordered Sa‘d, saying: ‘What prevented you from reviling Abu Turâb?’ He said: ‘Three things that I remember from the Messenger of Allah (swt) prevent me from reviling him. That I should have even one of those things is more beloved to me than red camels. I heard the Messenger of Allah (swt) speaking to ‘Alï, and he had left him behind in one of his battles. So ‘Ali said to him: “O Messenger of Allah! You leave me behind with the women and children?” So the Messenger of Allah (swt) said to him: “Are you not pleased that you should be in the position with me that Hârün was with Müsâ? Except that there is no Prophethood after me?” And on the Day of (the battle of) Khaibar, I heard him saying: “I shall give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him.” So we all waited for that, then he said: “Call ‘Alï for me.’” He said: ‘So he came to him, and he had been suffering from Ramad,1 so he (sawas) put spittle in his eye and gave the banner to him, then Allah granted him victory. And when this Âyah was revealed: ‘Let us call our sons and your sons, and our women and your women…’[1] the Messenger of Allah (sawas) called ‘Ali, Fâtimah, Hasan, and Husain and said: “O Allah, these are my family.” (Sahïh) [Abü ‘Eisa said:] This Hadïth is Hasan Gharïb Sahïh from this route.

I said: What did the Messenger of Allah (sawas) say to ‘Ali when he left him in charge of Madinah during the campaign to Tabook? Sa’d said: The Prophet (sawas) left ‘Ali in charge of Madinah during the campaign to Tabook, and he [‘Ali] said: O Messenger of Allah, are you leaving me behind with those who are staying behind, the women and children? He said: « Does it not please you to be to me as Haroon was to Moosa? » He said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. Then he turned and rushed back, and it is as if I can see the dust kicked up by his feet. And Hammad said: And ‘Ali went back quickly.
